Bealls Florida Opens New Bradenton Store, Bringing a Fresh Look to a Family Business Since 1915

A grand opening at Creekwood Crossing offers a closer look at the retailer’s evolving Florida identity—and the leadership guiding its next chapter.

BRADENTON, Fla. — Bealls Florida’s new store at Creekwood Crossing brings a fresh shopping experience to the community where the family business began more than a century ago.

The store, at 7381 52nd Place East in Bradenton, celebrated its grand opening the weekend of October 24–25. For a longtime admirer of Bealls and the family behind it, the opening offered an opportunity to see how a familiar Florida retailer is adapting to today’s shopper.

I attended the opening and found a packed parking lot, a busy sales floor, and a store that felt bright, crisp, and inviting. Inside, a large Bealls Florida sign anchors the space, with a simple message beneath it: “Thank you, Bradenton!”

A Fresh Look at Creekwood Crossing

The relocation gives Bealls Florida a new setting within an established shopping center near Interstate 75 and State Road 70. The landlord’s site plan lists the new store at 46,339 square feet, providing a more precise measurement than the approximately 40,000 square feet initially described.

What stood out to me was the combination of recognizable brands, an approachable presentation, and an emphasis on value. The experience brought Nordstrom Rack to mind: merchandise that invites shoppers to browse, discover a familiar label, and feel good about the price.

That is my comparison as a shopper, rather than an official description of Bealls Florida’s business model. The store retains its own identity, rooted in the clothing, footwear, and home merchandise associated with life in Florida.

Understanding Bealls Florida and bealls

The names can cause confusion, especially when the stores share a shopping center.

Bealls Florida is the company’s Florida lifestyle retail banner, serving residents and visitors with apparel, shoes, and home merchandise. bealls, the separate off-price chain formerly known as Bealls Outlet and Burkes Outlet, focuses on an ever-changing assortment of discounted merchandise. Home Centric is the company’s home furnishings and décor banner.

At Creekwood Crossing, the exterior signage makes those different offerings visible: Bealls Florida occupies one storefront, while bealls and Home Centric appear on the neighboring building.

Shoppers may recognize elements that remind them of Nordstrom Rack, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross. Those comparisons help explain the appeal of browsing for value, but the company’s distinct banners deserve to be understood on their own terms.

Tianne Doyle Brings Experience and Enthusiasm

At the opening, I met Tianne Doyle, president of Bealls, Inc., whose enthusiasm matched the activity around her.

Doyle began her retail career with Macy’s and joined Bealls in 1991. She became executive vice president and chief merchandising officer in 2020 before being promoted to president in 2023.

Our conversation left me with the impression that she understands the Florida customer: how people live here, what they wear, and what they expect when they walk into a store. That understanding matters for a retailer whose identity is closely tied to the state.

The company’s leadership also includes Chairman and CEO Matt Beall, a fourth-generation member of the founding family.

A Bradenton Business Looking Forward

One of the photographs from the visit captures a straightforward statement above the merchandise: “family business since 1915.”

It is a fitting reminder of the company’s origins. Robert M. Beall opened his first store in Bradenton in 1915, beginning a business that would grow well beyond its hometown.

For me, the new Bradenton store shows how that history can coexist with a fresh presentation. It is bright, attractive, and a pleasure to shop.

Whether this particular layout becomes a template for additional locations remains to be seen. Based on what I saw at the opening, it offers an encouraging example of how an established retailer can refresh its stores while maintaining a connection to its customers.

Bealls Florida remains a family business with deep Bradenton roots—and this opening gives local shoppers a new reason to take another look.
