Ground Broken on New VA Clinic in North Port, Expanding Healthcare Access for Southwest Florida Veterans

NORTH PORT, FL — Construction has officially begun on a new state-of-the-art Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in North Port, marking a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure for the region’s growing veteran population. Local leaders, representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and community stakeholders gathered on June 16 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the facility, which is expected to open in 2027.

The new clinic will be located at 4790 West Price Boulevard, near the intersection of Price Boulevard and Main Street. Once completed, the facility will replace the existing VA clinic in Port Charlotte and provide expanded healthcare services to veterans across Sarasota County, Charlotte County, and surrounding communities.

According to Bay Pines VA Healthcare System officials, the new facility will encompass more than 28,000 square feet and is designed to serve over 10,000 veterans annually. The clinic represents a substantial upgrade from the current Port Charlotte location, offering approximately three times more space and a broader range of services.

Key enhancements planned for the new facility include expanded primary care services, additional mental health resources, dedicated women’s health areas, telehealth capabilities, procedure rooms, and a significantly larger laboratory and blood draw area. The clinic will also feature specialized treatment space dedicated to supporting unhoused veterans and improved patient-centered care delivery through the VA’s Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model.

Officials noted that North Port was selected due to the area’s rapidly growing veteran population. Southwest Florida continues to attract retirees, including many military veterans seeking access to healthcare services closer to home. The new location is expected to improve accessibility while reducing travel times for many veterans throughout the region.

The facility will also include backup power systems to ensure continuity of care during severe weather events, a critical feature for Florida healthcare operations. Located less than three miles from Interstate 75, the clinic is strategically positioned to serve patients from multiple counties throughout Southwest Florida.

While many veterans welcome the expanded services and modern facility, community leaders are also exploring transportation solutions for those who currently rely on the Port Charlotte location. Bay Pines VA officials have indicated they are working with local partners to provide transportation assistance and travel reimbursement programs for eligible veterans.

Construction is expected to take approximately 14 months, with project completion anticipated by August 2027. Once operational, staff and services from the Port Charlotte clinic will transition to the new North Port facility.

As North Port continues to experience rapid population growth, the new VA clinic adds another major healthcare asset to the city while reinforcing its position as an emerging medical and service hub for Southwest Florida.
