Grimaldi’s Pizzeria Plans Major Expansion into Southwest Florida

Another nationally recognized restaurant brand is targeting Florida’s Gulf Coast for expansion, with Grimaldi’s Pizzeria planning multiple new locations across Southwest Florida.

The New York-rooted pizza concept has entered into a development agreement that calls for five new restaurants across Sarasota, Lee and Collier counties, including a planned Sarasota County location. The expansion will introduce Grimaldi’s to one of Florida’s fastest-growing regional markets.

New York Pizza Concept Heads to the Gulf Coast

Grimaldi’s is best known for its coal-fired brick-oven pizzas, along with calzones, salads and desserts served in an upscale-casual restaurant setting.

The concept traces its roots to the New York pizza tradition and has since grown into a multi-state restaurant brand. Its move into Sarasota and Southwest Florida represents another step in the company’s expansion into high-growth Sun Belt markets.

Rather than opening a single restaurant, the five-location development plan gives Grimaldi’s the opportunity to establish a meaningful regional presence stretching across Sarasota, Lee and Collier counties.

Sarasota Continues to Attract New Restaurant Concepts

The planned expansion is also another sign of the growing appeal of the Sarasota-Bradenton market to national and regional restaurant operators.

Population growth, tourism, residential development and strong household demographics have helped support an increasingly competitive restaurant and retail environment throughout the region.

Areas surrounding University Town Center, Lakewood Ranch, downtown Sarasota and the region’s major commercial corridors have experienced significant development, creating additional opportunities for restaurant groups looking to enter the market.

Grimaldi’s will join a growing list of concepts expanding into the Sarasota area. Recent restaurant activity has included new or planned locations from brands and concepts such as BrickTop’s, Just Salad and Tommy Bahama’s Marlin Bar, demonstrating continued demand for restaurant space throughout the market.

Southwest Florida Remains a Target for Retail Expansion

From a commercial real estate perspective, Grimaldi’s decision to pursue five locations rather than a single entry point is particularly notable.

The strategy highlights the broader growth story unfolding along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Sarasota, Lee and Collier counties collectively encompass several major growth markets, including Sarasota, Venice, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Naples.

As residential development continues throughout these areas, restaurant and retail operators are following population growth into both established commercial districts and newer suburban communities.

For landlords and developers, continued expansion from national restaurant concepts can strengthen demand for high-visibility endcaps, freestanding restaurant buildings and well-positioned retail centers near growing residential trade areas.

Another Vote of Confidence in Southwest Florida

The Grimaldi’s expansion represents more than the arrival of another pizza concept. A commitment to five restaurants demonstrates confidence in the long-term consumer and demographic fundamentals of Southwest Florida.

As the region continues attracting new residents, businesses and development, Sarasota and the broader Gulf Coast are becoming increasingly important expansion markets for restaurant and retail brands seeking additional Florida locations.

Grimaldi’s planned entry is the latest example of that trend—and another indication that Southwest Florida remains firmly on the radar of national restaurant operators and commercial real estate investors.
