IKEA’s 48,000-Square-Foot Store Is Coming to Sarasota’s UTC District
Sarasota, FL – A welcome new tenant is coming soon to University Town Center. For many Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota residents, the long drive to Tampa for IKEA will soon be a thing of the past.
A New 48,000-Square-Foot Store Planned on Cattlemen Road
A new IKEA location is officially headed to Sarasota, set for 147 N. Cattlemen Road within the UTC district. Plans call for a 48,000-square-foot store, further reinforcing the area’s position as one of Florida’s fastest-growing and most influential retail hubs.
Unlike the brand’s traditional warehouse-style stores, this location represents IKEA’s evolving strategy—smaller, more accessible formats designed to integrate directly into high-traffic retail corridors.
Why This IKEA Location Matters for Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch
The site itself is expected to fall within UTC’s expanding eastern development zone, an area that has seen significant planning activity from Benderson Development. Over the past several years, this corridor has transitioned from underutilized land into one of the most actively curated retail environments in the Sarasota-Manatee region.
UTC Continues to Expand as a Regional Retail Hub
IKEA has confirmed it will open its new Sarasota location at 147 N. Cattlemen Road within University Town Center—the former Christmas Tree Shops building—bringing a 48,000-square-foot store to the heart of the UTC retail corridor.
While a finalized site plan has not yet been publicly released, the placement along Cattlemen Road suggests the store will anchor or integrate into a broader mixed-use retail expansion currently underway in the UTC East District.

This move reflects a broader shift in IKEA’s U.S. growth strategy. The company has been aggressively rolling out smaller-format locations as part of a push to improve accessibility, reduce reliance on large-format suburban stores, and better align with evolving consumer shopping behaviors.
For Sarasota, the implications are significant. Even at a reduced footprint, IKEA carries the gravitational pull of a major anchor tenant—capable of increasing regional draw, boosting surrounding tenant performance, and accelerating additional leasing activity nearby.
The UTC corridor, already home to a dense concentration of national brands and high-performing retail, continues to build momentum as a dominant destination not just for Sarasota, but for the broader Gulf Coast market.
